Aubergine Seeds Aubergines are also known, in various parts of the world, as eggplants so don't be confused. As aubergines are from the same family as tomatoes, they like warm to high temperatures having said this they can be grown outside in a sheltered position or especially against a south facing wall so that they can benefit from the heat of the sun during the day and the radiating heat from the wall in the evenings. If this type of position is not possible for you then you may be best to grow under glass or polythene.
They like good fertile soil and plenty of water once the fruit starts to form, very important to keep the soil moist. They can be grown together with cucumbers as they both like similar environments however the fruit grows larger and much heavier so it is a good idea to stake the plants to keep them upright. This will also help the fruits to get as much light and air as possible which will help to keep the skin fresh.
