Black Madras

The Black Madras is also known as the Purple Rice and is a black grass which will bring a touch of the Orient to your garden with its green leaves that have purple tips. The Oryza sativa is ideal for planting in sheltered borders or in containers. The tree does like a sunny but sheltered position.

Seeds should be sown from February to May in pots or trays with a fine sprinkling of compost or worm castings (Vermicast OT) and keep at a temperature of between 20 - 25C . Keep the compost moist and germination will usually take 7-10 days. This variety will grow to a height of between 40 - 60 cm and the pack contains enough seeds for 40 plants.
