Coriander (Coriandrum sativum)

The coriander is an annual plant that will grow between 50-80 cm high. It will grow small white flowers in umbrella shaped clusters. The seeds are used in pharmacy and distillery, as well as many culinary dishes, including sausages.

Obviously both the seeds and leaves are used from this most versitile herb. The seeds can be planted directly into your plot or sown during March and transplanted as a seedling during April. It likes a damp area away from the strong sun and if you pick the leaves on a regular basis you will stop bolting and delay the onset of seeding.

However if you are after the coriander seeds, to add to curries and chutneys, then once planted keep it watered and just leave the plant.

SOW: in Spring or in Autumn in open soil.
DISTANCE: 40 cm between rows; 15-20 cm between plants.
QUANTITY: 2-3 gr. of seed per sq. m.
HARVEST: June to Septmber (or later under cover.)
