Herb Seeds - Basil Seeds - Basil Fine Verde

Herb Basil Fine Verde is a dwarf ornamental Italian basil, with small glossy smooth green leaves, very aromatic with a slightly hot flavour as a seasoning. Pretty and very compact plant for containers. This basil is good and easy to use in cooking because both the leaves and twigs are used, unlike basils with larger leaves. Average 3000 seeds per packet.

SOW: in a pot or seed-bed in March, in rows in the open field from May to August.
QUANTITY: 1 gr. of seed per sq. m. of seedbed; 1 gr. of seed per 10 sq. m. of ground (direct). TRANSPLANT: at the end of May from the seedbed.
DISTANCE: about 30 cm between plants.
HARVEST: June to October (or later under cover).

"I sowed them in cell trays during March and found no need for heated
propagation. Overall, germination was good and after pricking out half a
dozen plants for culinary use at home I had plenty of spares to give away
and trade with friends and colleagues and had only sowed a third of the
packet in the first place. This Basil is much easier to cultivate than normal Basil and forms a
compact, dense, high yielding bush about a foot high and nearly as wide when
potted on into a 3 inch pot, ideal when greenhouse space is at such a
premium. The leaves are much smaller than those of most basils and as a consequence,
the flavour is considerably more spicy. A Godsend for the lazy (or rushing)
cook as it can be used without the need to strip the leaves from the stems,
unlike it's woodier cousins.

I'm looking forward to trying some similar small leaved varieties and a
lemon variegated version this spring and will definitely be experimenting
with an outside row on the plot too."
