Oxeye daisy - sometimes called moon daisy, marguerite or dog daisy - is a perennial commonly found in meadows, chalk downland and other sunny grassland sites. A firm favourite and one of the earliest plants to flower in our meadow areas of the Wildlife Garden, it takes over as cowslips begin to fade and continues throughout much of the summer. Growing up to 70 cm tall it makes a lovely addition to areas of long grass or lawn edges. In the borders too, oxeye daisy will add an exuberant splash of white and yellow by day and a magical luminous white on a moonlit night. A valuable nectar plant, the flat open flower of this daisy attracts butterflies including small tortoiseshell and red admiral.
