The radish is one of the older vegetables as it was known to have been cultivated in ancient Egypt. Radishes are a very good source of vitamin C and are low in both calories and fat therefore are eaten as a popular snack with slimmers.
As can be seen by the number of varieties we offer, there is a large selection of radish available so that sowing is not just for the summer but radish seeds can be sown in order to be harvested from the summer months through winter and into spring.
It is a good idea to sow your radishes with parsnips as they work well together especially as parsnips are very slow to germinate to it allows maximum use of your plot with the radish growing quickly and the parsnips following. Radishes like well drained soil but are quite happy with any type especially soil that has not been manured or fertilized recently. The most important thing to remember when growing a radish is that, especially in warm weather, it like a constant supply of water and it is important not to let the soil dry out. This does not mean you have to spend all day standing in the middle of your plot with a watering can in hand but they will want some water every day.
