Wool fibres are a fantastic natural and organic method of slug control and these pellets make using so easy and clean. Wool fibres have very fine scales on them with tiny barbs on the end that are called Cuticle Cells. It is these that cause the wool to felt and mat together. Wool is very hydroscopic meaning that it will attract water. So the combination of the natural properties of wool fibres, the sand and grit that is already in the compound, the potassium salts from the sheep plus the thousands of tiny hairs on each pellet absorb some of the 'slime' from the slug and cause it irritation meaning that it will seek food elsewhere.
Utilise the unique properties of wool to 'self felt'. This means that when the pellets are spread thinly over the surface of the soil, and then watered, it forms an insulation-type mat around the plant that will not blow or wash away.
These wool pellets are made from 'Wool Shoddy' which is an important byproduct of the wool textile industry. It has a long established reputation as both an excellent slow release fertiliser and a very rich, organic source of nitrogen. Modern technology can deliver the benefits of wool and the natural organic elements in pellet form which make using very easy and clean and give the advantage of soil moisture retention, weed suppression and are a good improver of soil structure.
Slug pellets
Firstly clean around the plant
Slug pellets around base of plant
Secondly: place the slug deterrent pellets around the base of the plant
Water the slug pellets
Thirdly: water the pellets gently for the first couple of days then normally following this.
Slug deterrent insulation mat
The slug pellets will now form an insulation mat that will not blow away and will provide your plants with protection against slugs & snails, will aid soil water retention and will fertilise the soil all at the same time.
